How to lock and unlock an element on Canva

Lock elements to avoid making unintentional changes to them while you edit other parts of your design.

If you're trying to place a logo on a photo without the logo going into the background, you can lock the background.

Sometimes an element of our template will be locked, you can edit this by unlocking the element.

How to lock or unlock:

  1. Create or open an existing design.
  2. Click to select the element you want to lock. You can also hold Shift on your keyboard, and click on multiple elements to select them.
  3. Click Lock or the padlock icon on the toolbar above the editor.

To unlock, click to select the locked elements, and click the  padlock icon again.
