Why does the image get brighter when I place my own image in C&C template?

When replacing an image in one of the templates in Canva, the "gray overlay" may be removed. Here's how to avoid that happening and how to fix it when it does!

Before placing your image into a template, make sure the page you're dragging your image to is selected. The purple border tells you the page is selected. This will allow you to drag your image and keep the "gray overlay."

If the page was not selected before dragging your image to the template it may look like the image below. Click shortcut > command + Z to undo so the template reverts to the original. Then select the page you wish to replace the image in, drag your image to the template.

If your image still does not have the "gray overlay" click the transparency icon and move the transparency bar to "50."

๐Ÿ’กTIP: The "gray overlay" is actually an underlay. We change the background color of the template and bump the transparency of the image to 50% so the text pops! If you have black text try a lighter background color for the reverse.
