Creating a custom background in Canva can make your posts feel more personal. This article will show you how to easily swap out the background image in your template.
How to Replace the Background Photo with your Branding Photo
Step 1: Upload Your Image
Click Uploads on the left sidebar in Canva.
Click Upload Files to add your image.
Step 2: Replace the Background
Drag and drop your uploaded photo onto the existing background.

How to Replace the Background Photo with One of Your City/Area
Step 1: Locate a photo of your city or state
In Canva’s Elements tab, search for your city or state.
If you’re in a smaller town that doesn’t appear in search, try searching for your state instead.
Look for scenic photos that reflect the vibe of your area—like a field for Texas, mountains for Colorado, or coastal views for Florida.

Step 2: Upload Your Image
Click Uploads on the left sidebar in Canva.

Click the background photo, then click the Transparency icon (checkerboard icon in the top toolbar).
Click and drag the slider to increase or decrease the transparency.
C&C designs are defaulted to a black background color to improve readability of elements & text.
How to Adjust the Positioning of your Background Photo
Double click the background photo.
Click + drag the photo (left, right, up, down) to reposition it.
Click + drag the corners of the photo to resize it.
If text is covering key parts of the photo:
Move the text around.
Make the text smaller.
Adjust the position of your photo.
